Day 2 – Growing Up with a Ball: My Journey to the NBTC Tournament – with Ashton Pahanel

Hey guys my name is Ashton Pahanel from Homegrown Basketball Australia. My basketball dream is to play professional basketball in Australia, Europe, Asia or back at home in the Philippines. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m just a 17 year old kid from Sydney Australia who goes to a normal public school, who loves the game of basketball and loves having fun with his family and friends.

My basketball journey has had a lot of ups and downs but despite the challenges it has been a fun journey of growth and development so far. From a young age i’ve been fortunate enough to compete in a representative club back in Sydney Australia, where I’ve been able to win multiple junior championships and compete at state and national level. My second biggest achievement so far came from winning gold in the Australian National Tournament.

With that being said, my biggest achievement yet was being given an opportunity from Homegrown Basketball to represent the young Filipino talent in Australia and compete at the SM NBTC Global Games competition, playing against the best Filipino talent worldwide.

I wanna thank Homegrown Basketball and Coach Rey for believing in me and trusting in me with taking that next step up. I wanna thank them for blessing me with this opportunity and pathway where i am able to take my skills to the next level and further take my basketball journey to the next step.
