Day 3 – From Local Competitions to the Global Stage: My Basketball Journey with Ira Manas

Hey guys, my name is Ira, I play the four and five and my dream is to be a professional basketball player. I’m 18 years old and I’ve been playing basketball since I was six. I’ve always been surrounded by basketball, I’ve always watched my dad play and as a result I absorbed his passion. Growing up I’ve played in local competitions at Mount Druitt, Penrith and Castle Hill and have played representative basketball for Blacktown Storm and Penrith Panthers.

The Homegrown program has helped me a lot with my basketball journey. They have been actively involved in my growth of becoming a versatile player, training me to be able to score on all three levels as well as improve my defensive ability . The program has also enabled me to pay attention on the finer details of skills allowing me to be the best version of me. Homegrown has provided a platform for me to exhibit my talent, providing me a chance to achieve my dream as a professional basketball player.

Something that people don’t know about me is that I like to play chess in my free time. Ive been playing for a couple of months so I’m not the best but it’s something I enjoy to do when I got spare time. It allows me to strategise and develop my thinking overall and it helps me get off social media which is a big part of why I do it.
